The Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter is an American heavy, four-engine transport aircraft from the end of World War II. The C-97 prototype took off on January 9, 1945. It was created by combining the wings of a B-29 bomber, significantly enlarging its fuselage with four Pratt-Whitney R-4360B Wasp Major engines with a power of 3500KM each. The maximum load capacity was 16 tons, and loading and unloading was facilitated by the rear ramp. The plane served in the Korean War, where it was used as a classic transport plane and a wounded evacuation plane. In the years 1947-1958, 888 machines of this type were built, of which 811 were flying tanks (KC-97). The withdrawal of the C-97 from line service took place only in 1978. Technical data: Maximum speed: 603 km / h, maximum ceiling 10 668 m, maximum range: 9270 km.
