The Battle of Agincourt (eng. Battle of Agincourt) was fought on October 25, 1415 in the territory of north-eastern France between the troops of King Henry V of England from the Lancaster dynasty, and the French army led by - above all - French conetable Charles D'Albret. It is assumed that on the English side, from 6,000 to 9,000 soldiers took part in the battle, while the number of French troops is estimated very differently - from 12,000 to even 36,000 men. It is certain that the French side had a clear numerical advantage over the English army. It is also worth adding that the English army was made up primarily of longbow armed archers, while on the French side there were about 10,000 knights and a large, though unknown, number of foot troops, including archers and crossbowmen. It is almost certain that the English side (similarly to Crecy in 1346) adopted a defensive stance, strengthening its positions with a palisade. Moreover, Henry V chose a position that made it impossible to flank him, as well as terrain conducive to defense and hindered cavalry charges. The battle probably started around 11.00 am with the English and Welsh archers being advanced at a distance of about 300 meters ahead of the French positions. At this distance, the archers began firing enemy positions. The French responded with a disorderly attack that was repelled by the disciplined English infantry. Subsequent attacks by French knights, conducted in the form of cavalry charges, were troubled, but nevertheless repelled by the English side. The battle was a complete English success. In its course, Henry V lost - by. various estimates - from 200 to 600 people, and French losses amounted to - again, according to various estimates - from 2,200 to about 13,000 killed and captured. The Battle of Agincourt from 1415 is considered one of the greatest English victories during the Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) and undoubtedly the greatest military success of Henry V. It is worth adding that this great battle also became the main axis of the drama "Henry V" by William Shakespeare.
