The Jupiter steam locomotive is a steam locomotive built at the Schenectady Locomotive Works in New York, United States in September 1868. The locomotive was built in the Whyte notation in the 4-4-0 system, and the diameter of its wheels was 1435 mm. Initially, Jupiter had a boiler adapted to burning wood, but in 1893 it was adapted to coal.
The Jupiter steam locomotive, along with its three sister locomotives, Storm, Whirlwind and Leviathan, was built for the Central Pacific railroads based in Sacramento. The main task of the new steam locomotives was to operate the railroad running from California to Utah. However, on May 10, 1869, the Jupiter steam locomotive went down in the history of railroads in the USA, as it witnessed the location of the last section of the railway line connecting both coasts of the United States. The first truly transcontinental railroad in the history of this country! After this event, which was ceremonially framed, Jupiter continued to serve on the Central Pacific Railroad and then on the Globe and Nrothern Railroad until 1906, when it was sold for scrap. It is worth noting that in 1979 a working replica of the Jupiter steam locomotive was manufactured by O'Connor Engineering Laboratories.
